When writing my parts of Magonomia I found these sources particularly useful. I hope you similarly find them valuable.

Books
If forced to pick one, try A time traveller’s guide to Elizabethan England by Ian Mortimer. I also found the following useful.

How to be a Tudor : A dusk to dawn guide to everyday life by Ruth Goodman
How to behave badly in Renaissance Britain by Ruth Goodman

I also found Black Tudors by Miranda Kaufmann useful for plot hooks and used Religion for Atheists by Alain de Bottonfor some of the structure of how I described the Church. Some of that was cut out and stored in the editing process, so I’m not sure how much is in the final book.

Podcasts
Renaissance English History Podcast: A Show About the Tudors
Tudor History with Claire Ridgway
The Tudor history and travel show

I’d also like to mention The Almost Forgotten which has a great series on the Dutch war of independence.

Music
Songs from the Labyrinth by Sting and Edin Karamazov is an album of songs by John Dowland, a lutenist from Elizabeth’s court. He was pretty clearly a spy of Cecil’s and at least occasionally an agent of Walsingham’s.
